1st Maryland Infantry
"today"
Friends... Family... Historians... Educators..., etc.

The Company H, 1st Maryland of today is comprised of the same kind of individuals who made up the original roster of 1861 - those who
are committed to the cause. Our cause today, as our motto states, is "to commemorate, to educate, to emulate". Members of the 1st
Maryland strive to bring the life and times of the war period to the public by participating in living history presentations, battle scenarios and
patriotic parade events.

The 1st Maryland is the largest civil war reenactment organization in New England representing the southern perspective as a member of
the Army of Northern Virginia. The unit prides itself on being family-oriented, as can be seen in our present day roster that includes men,
women and children. Every event that the unit participates in will include all of our members from every age group - this best represents the
southern way of life during the war period.

Besides participating in the most popular segment of reenacting, the battle reenactments, the 1st Maryland can more often be seen in living
history events. We excel in Civil War education by making numerous appearances throughout New England (and beyond) at schools,
community fairs, scouting events, historical society benefits and most recently, as part of the support staff of the National Park Service's
Gettysburg Battlefield Living History weekends. These events are where the 1st Maryland comes to life. Our reenactors represent both the
military soldiers and civilians of the war era while reaching out to spectators of all ages to commemorate, to educate and to emulate the
original members, families and friends of Company H, 1st Maryland.

The unit continues to grow and improve with every new reenacting season. It is our goal to maintain the family atmosphere of the unit and to
maintain the reputation for authenticity and the pride of the original company.
